Dons Tame Shrews To End Losing Run
Shrewsbury 0 v Wimbledon 0
Wimbledon avoided a fourth successive defeat as they ground out a 0-0 draw at Shrewsbury on Saturday (29 October).
The Dons had conceded 12 goals in their previous 3 league games, and faced a tough trip against a side that was looking to chalk up a club-record equalling eighth successive home win.
Yet the Dons went very close to taking a fourth-minute lead when Ricky Wellard's long-range effort hit the bar with home keeper Chris Neal beaten, with James Mulley heading over the rebound.
But after that it was a resolute defensive display that saw the Dons capture a point, with Seb Brown in outstanding form.
He made a superb save from Lionel Ainsworth just moments after that Wellard effort had gone begging, while Mark Wright and Nicky Wroe saw efforts blocked as the Dons survived a number of goalmouth scrambles.
Brown was again in top form to catch a deflected Sammy Moore clearance and also had to be alert five minutes from the end, saving Matt Richards' free-kick one handed after Jamie Stuart had been penalised for handball.
But the Dons' defence held out to arrest their recent slump in form.
They'll be hoping for a similarly tight defensive display when they entertain Lawrie Sanchez's Barnet next Saturday (5 November) before two cup competitions, at Swindon in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on 8 November and at home to League One side Scunthorpe United in the FA Cup on 12 November.
