Wimbledon’s encouraging pre-season campaign continued on Tuesday night (July 20) with a comfortable 6-2 win at Ryman League neighbours Corinthian Casuals.

Striker Delano Sam-Yorke – on trial from Woking – was in the thick of the action from the off, winning an early penalty that fellow trialist Reece Jones converted.

Midfielder Steve Gregory got the second soon after, before Sam-Yorke added to his performance by netting twice. However, his second – scored with the Casuals defence static as they were unaware the game had restarted following a stoppage – was immediately nullified as the Dons allowed the home side to walk the ball into the back of their net.

Casuals almost pulled another back in the second half when they hit the crossbar with goalkeeper Jack Turner beaten, and the young custodian had to be alert as Christian Jolley’s immediate back header almost caught him out.

The Dons made their now customary mass substitutions on the hour mark and it was new arrival Jon Main who got the final two goals, before Casuals pulled another goal back with 10 minutes remaining.

The Dons travel to Woking on Saturday (July 24) for a match played in memory of former Dons goalkeeper and Woking chairman Phil Ledger.

Wimbledon: Turner (Brown); Jackson (Hatton), Franks (Yakubu), Harris (Johnson), Blackman (L.Moore); Jones (S.Moore), Gregory (Frost), Yussuff; Molloy (Kedwell), Sam-Yorke (Main), Jolley.
